Crisis Clinician/MA Clinician

Reports to: Director of Emergency Services, Shift Supervisor

FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Summary:

The Crisis Clinician/MA Clinician will provide comprehensive emergency mental health and substance abuse services to individuals and families in crisis.

Essential Functions:

• Provide psychiatric and substance abuse evaluation of individuals and families in crisis in community, clinic, and hospital settings.
• Provide crisis intervention services including crisis case management and short-term crisis counseling as follow-up from initial evaluation.
• Maintain linkages with specific community services by providing documented case consultations and problem resolution.
• Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of managed care and health insurance systems; provide other clinicians with managed care information and resources pertinent to the crises being managed.
• Provide information on treatment and referral services.
• Maintain necessary documentation and records in accordance with program requirements.
• Remain alert at all times throughout the scheduled shift.
• Attendance at supervision and staff meetings.
• Perform all duties in accordance with the agency's policies and procedures.
• Strictly follow all agency Performance Standards.

Qualification/Education/Experience/Personal Characteristics:

• Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling Education, Counseling Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling or a related counseling field.
• At least two years of experience with target population (inpatient, outpatient, residential acceptable).
• Must possess excellent assessment and interviewing skills.
• Must adhere to professional ethics.
• Ability to develop and maintain satisfactory working relationships with employees and providers.
• Must have working knowledge of current version of the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.
• Commitment to Advocates values and mission.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to read and speak English.
• Sensitivity to the needs of the population.
• High energy level, superior interpersonal skills and ability to function in a team atmosphere.
• Must have valid driver's license and access to auto.
• Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
