Awake Overnight Counselor

Reports to: Program Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job Summary :

The Awake Overnight Counselor is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of all individuals during the night. This includes being available to provide any assistance needed during the night and assisting with morning activities as needed.

Essential Functions:

  1. Remain awake, alert and responsive to the needs of the consumers throughout the shift.
  2. Attend trainings as assigned; maintain necessary certifications (CPR/First Aid, MAP, SOLVE, etc.).
  3. Provide a safe living environment for consumers.
  4. Ensure that consumers are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with Advocates' Human Rights policy.
  5. Provide crisis intervention as necessary.
  6. Train consumers in and conduct nighttime fire drills.
  7. Ensure the safe evacuation of consumers from the program during a fire or fire drill.
  8. Assist consumers with morning activities as needed.
  9. Assist consumers with home maintenance and perform cleaning duties as assigned.
  10. Implement established treatment programs.
  11. Report significant health, psychiatric or behavioral issues to the on-call person in accordance with program procedure.
  12. Record consumer information in daily logs.
  13. Attend trainings as required.
  14. Perform physical intervention in the event of a client crisis.
  15. Perform all duties in accordance with the agency's policies and procedures.

Qualification/Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and able to use good judgment.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of the population.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to lift and transfer consumers.
  • High energy level, superior interpersonal skills and ability to function in a team atmosphere.
  • Must hold a valid drivers' license. Must have access to an operational and insured vehicle and be willing to use it to transport consumers.

General requirements: Full upper extremity range of motion, full lower extremity range of motion , and must be able to lift furniture and/or objects/persons weighing over 50 lbs.
