MetroWest Mental Health & Substance Abuse
Task Force Conference

This year's MetroWest Mental Health & Substance Abuse Task Force Conference will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2007 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Westborough. This year's conference, "Emerging Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment and Practices Across the Life Span" offers a unique opportunity for the community to join together to think about the challenges and solutions to ensure that services and supports can be implemented seamlessly across the lifespan. We are very pleased that Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray will provide opening remarks this year.

We have assembled a wonderful cadre of presenters including a keynote address by nationally renowned expert Harvey Milkman, Ph.D., founder and Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies. Dr. Milkman also is principal investigator and director of Pathways to Self-Discovery, a national demonstration model that provides high-risk youth with coping skills and alternatives to substance abuse, crime and violence. In addition to Dr. Milkman, other well-known experts will be presenting on topics such as Cultural Competency, Evidence-Based Practice, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma, Professional Boundaries, and Prevention.

During the luncheon we will recognize two special honorees. One community member will receive the first-ever "Debbie Blumer Hope Award" given in honor and memory of the late State Representative Debby Blumer. Another person will receive the "Outstanding Service Award" given to a MetroWest community member who has demonstrated excellence and commitment in the field.

Please share this brochure with your colleagues and other interested community members. We look forward to seeing you on November 1st!
