Geriatric Medication Administration Program (MAP) MAP is made possible by a collaboration with BayPay Elder Services, Inc. of Framingham and a grant from the Executive Office of Elder Services. BayPath Elder Services, Inc. and Advocates, Inc. have collaborated and expanded Advocates’ existing community-based MAP to BayPath clients. Once an elder is referred, Advocates MAP staff will schedule a meeting with the client and the BayPath case manager to review history, current need, proposed visit schedule, contact information, medications and medication storage. MAP staff can assist an elder with supervision/observation of the elder packing medications in a medication planner; supervision of medication doses dispensed directly to the elder, observation that medications are taken as prescribed; storing medications; medication reminders; getting medication from a pharmacy; and communicating with health care providers. MAP staff are certified through a 12 hour training by an American Red Cross nurse. They must pass a three part examination covering basic medication information, administration procedures, how to observe and report on medication, preventing and controlling infection, obtaining medications, documentation, recording, and storage of medications. MAP staff are re-certified by a Red Cross nurse every 2 years. The MAP service area includes BayPath's 14 Metro West communities: Ashland, Dover, Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton, Hudson, Marlborough, Natick, Northborough, Sherborn, Southborough, Sudbury, Wayland, and Westborough.
