Advocates Produces new Training Videos
May 25, 2009
Advocates is proud to make available two original videos designed to empower individuals who receive services and to educate the staff and clinicians who work with them.
The Advocates Way video gives life to Advocates clinical philosophy. In 2008, a task force of individuals from across the Advocates community - people who receive Advocates services, direct care staff and administrators - completed a working statement of Advocates' philosopy. Known as The Advocates Way, the philosopy teaches new staff the fundamental values of collaboration and empowerment that are critical to the our community, and it empowers the people we support to hold us accountable to these values. Going to the Doctor is a 23-minute video presentation, the objective of which is to illustrate ways doctors, care recipients and direct care staff can work together to maximize the effectiveness and the quality of an individual's visit to the doctor. In 2002, the Surgeon General issued a wake-up call on the health disparities facing people with developmental disabilities. Going to the Doctor is one way in which Advocates is answering this call as we work to improve the quality of life for the people we serve. Click here to view Going to the Doctor.
